Dunstable Town responded well with a win at Sawbridgeworth Town in the Premier Division Cup after a difficult result and performance that saw them heavily defeated at home to Harlow Town
A few changes were made from the defeat on Tuesday with the return of Mulik Rickman, Ethan Goulding, Michael Shamalo and Prince Madu coming back into the starting line up, Paris Hall started on the bench.
JJ Kenna made his 50th appearance for the club.
Dunstable could be forgiven for lacking in self belief after a difficult period of late but more than matched their fifth placed league opponents.
The Blues restricted the hosts to minimal efforts on George Rose’s goal. While the game was end to end there was little to show for the efforts of both teams in the first half.
Sawbridgeworth had a goal ruled out for offside in the first period of the second half and also struck the bar before they took the lead in the 66th minute when good build up play from Callum Phelps set up Michael Toner to tap home.
Dunstable showed character despite going a goal behind and equalised five minutes later when a fine cross by Harry Stratton found Hall, who got past the last man and finshed well to make it 1-1.
The game looked like going to penalties but Harvey Nicholls had other ideas. Coming on as an 85th minute substitute, he whipped in a comer that deceived Jimmy Parker in the Sawbridgeworth goal and dipped under the bar and into the far top corner of the net to seal progression to the next round.
