Dunstable Town Women made it four clean sheets in six games as they defeated Newmarket Town Women on Sunday.

They made it harder than it should have been, missing opportunities to increase the lead but will be pleased with their creative play overall.

The Blues had fourteen efforts on goal but only had the winning goal to show for their efforts.

In a similar game to the Mulbarton match before Christmas, Dunstable dominated most of it but left nerves jangling at the end before taking the three points.

In the opening five minutes Newmarket keeper Mya Parker came out of her area with the ball striking her hand which fell into the path of Ruby Hawksworth who shot narrowly wide.

On 23 minutes good play from the hosts ended with Amy Leach shooting just wide then Newmarket caused a small scramble in the Dunstable area before the ball was cleared.

Hayley Smith went through on goal nine minutes later and despite being pulled back she managed to get a shot away which just missed the target.

In the 34th minute Dunstable came close again following a deflected shot from Newmarket which Abbey Pursey-Weedon gathered, the Blues broke with Leach going clear but her shot was saved.

Cerys Rees was next to go through on goal but Parker blocked her shot, which bounced up against an opponents hand but nothing was given by the referee.

Dunstable finally made the break through a minute before half time when Rees struck the post from close range but Hawksworth followed up to score the rebound.

Five minutes into the second half Rees broke down the right and crossed to Leach but Parker saved bravely.

Rees then tried to chip Parker but her opponent gathered well.

In the 67th minute Leach volleyed over then Lexxie Burton volleyed high over the bar.

With twelve minutes remaining Emily Foster hit a free kick narrowly over then Rees followed suit by volleying over a corner.

Newmarket had the home contigent on edge when a corner was headed over Pursey-Weldon’s bar in the opening minute of added time.
