After five weeks without a game due to the Christmas break and postponed matches due to the weather Dunstable Town FC Women gained vital minutes of fitness in a friendly with Chesham United Women who are two leagues above the Blues.

The scoreline was harsh on Town who played well throughout and were 2-1 down with ten minutes left and still in the game but unfortunately the visitors made the most of some tired limbs to score three late goals.

Dunstable started the game well and edged the opening 20 minutes which included a shot on goal by Monet Grace-Wille.

Ella Rothwell then headed over six minutes later before Chesham took the lead in the 29th minute with a fine long range strike that flew into the top right hand corner.

Chesham shot over and had a goal correctly ruled out of offside just before the break.

Within thirty seconds of the second half Abbey Purdue-Weedon produced a fine save by tipping a Chesham effort over the bar.

The Blues equalised moments later when Ruby Hawksworth capitalised on an error to score from the edge of the area.

The visitors were awarded a penalty which was converted on 62 minutes when two Town players brought down an opponent in the box.

Pursey-Weedon produced another good save in the 75th minute before Chesham scored three goals from range and a tight angle in the last ten minutes to secure the win.

Town’s largely young squad that included many 16 - 18 year olds more than competed with their National League opponents throughout and can be pleased with the overall performance given the long break from playing.
