It was a very sad day for the club on Saturday as manager Steve O’Reilly decided to step down from his role.
Steve is a great person on and off the pitch, who was very productive with the community aspect of the club and other teams within it, often taking time out to watch those teams play in his time off.
He put his heart and soul into the job along side a dedicated coaching team and truly respected the values of the club. He was not just a caring manager but he also cared about all the people within DTFC.
He was supportive of us in the media team and always spoke well. His fluent and informative interviews were exceptional and I don’t ever recall him having to do more than one take, he is that good.
He is a people person and from my own experience I can say he always looks out for others.
Some really good memories will never be taken away including the first win of the 24/25 season at FC Romania, winning at Kempston Rovers in the last minute and the last gasp win at Harlow Town this season.
Steve gave debuts to youth team players in his time at the club. Billy Goodwin, Alfie Young, Mikey Dobbs and Owen Russell all made senior appearances during his reign.
He gave youngsters a chance from other clubs too, taking them on loan from clubs like Hertford Town who he built up a good relationship with.
He believed in trying to help young players flourish including those who consistently played in the first team.
The life of a football manager can be tough and takes a lot of dedication. No one can ever say Steve wasn’t dedicated.
Thank you Stevo.
