Dunstable Town put on a courageous and hard working performance in difficult circumstances after a two minute period early in the game proved to be a harsh experience for the team and travelling supporters.

Jamie Robinson was shown a straight red card for a last man foul and to rub salt into the wounds Harry Scott scored the resulting free kick, which would eventually result in the hosts taking all three points.

The Blues started the game brightly and almost took the lead when Luka Lodder ran clear of the Winslow defence but his shot was well saved by Jake Stronge with two minutes gone.

George Rose then saved well at the other end in the 10th minute as United applied pressure.

The game went in Winslow’s favour six minutes later when Robinson made a tackle on an opponent twenty yards out that unfortunately prevented a goal scoring opportunity, which meant he had an early end to the game.

Scott stepped up and hit the resulting free kick over the wall to give Rose no chance. It was a difficult moment for Town who had started the game well.

Aaron King hit a shot from range, which just cleared the bar then Scott shot wide for Winslow.

Just before half time Michael Shamalo agonisingly headed over the crossbar for Town before a Winslow attack saw a cross from right fizz across Rose’s box but it couldn’t find a team mate.

Ten minutes into the second half Rose made another fine save to keep his team in the game then Lodder was just off target with a free kick after Jim Burnside was fouled on the edge of the area. Lodder then headed over from Ethan Goulding’s set piece.

On 78 minutes Dan Woolley shot over for the home side before Lodder had a great opportunity to score with a header that was desperately close.

Town put up a great fight in the circumstances as Winslow seemed relieved to take the points at the full time whistle.
