Dunstable Town Women suffered defeat on Sunday as a below par performance saw Thetford Town take all three points.
The team are currently short on numbers through injuries to Bailey Plumbridge, Sian Morris, Shannon Cullen, Nicole Hanson and top scorer Cerys Rees amongst those on the injured list, which has proved difficult.
The opening quarter of an hour was like a chess match with both trying to find a way through but there was little effort on either goal until the 16th minute when Thetford shot wide.
AJ Hebborn did well to smother the ball when a Therford attacker went through on goal eleven minutes later.
Monet Grace-Wille had a shot which was easily saved soon after, before she opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Hebborn’s long kick out bounced up perfectly for her to lob the oncoming keeper.
Grace-Wille had another shot saved just before the break as Town finished the stronger.
The second half proved a difficult one. Thetford equalised ten minutes into it with a neat finish.
With 57 minutes gone Hebborn saved well to keep the game level before Dunstable’s Keira Larch’s shot was saved.
Thetford took control of the game and went ahead in the 62nd minute when Hebborn saved low but the ball found its way to the visitors attacker who scored with ease.
Ten minutes later they made it 3-1 when a long range shot beat Hebborn at the near post.
With eight minutes to go the Blues pulled a goal back when Grace-Wille’s excellent header was saved but Sanam Shahid shot home after a mini scramble.
Dunstable were unable to score an equaliser as they fell to defeat.
