Dunstable Town Women were beaten by a determined Cambridge City on Sunday.

After last week’s euphoria of a last gasp win it was a contrasting watch this week with a below par performance where the team didn’t really get going.

Town lost goalkeeper Angelika Kopec-Knurek through illness along with others while Lily Champ devastatingly fractured her ankle playing for the under 18’s on Saturday morning.

Town nearly took the lead in the 5th minute when a cross from the right was almost turned into her own net by a Cambridge defender, thankfully for City the ball fell into the keepers’ hands.

Cerys Rees had a shot saved on 17 minutes with hard working Amy Leach having her effort saved when through on goal with half an hour played.

City has a cross-shot off the top of the bar in the 32nd minute before Lexxie Burton had a shot saved at the other end followed by a carbon copy moment for Leach when she went through again.

Cambridge were pressing well throughout while Dunstable, although having shots on goal, struggled to really test the City keeper into significant saves.

The visitors shot wide with eight minutes of the first half remaining but they were rewarded for their hard work when they took the lead right on half time by heading home a corner.

Five minutes into the second half Cambridge sliced a shot wide before Burton and Lola Cook had efforts over the bar.

On the hour City increased their lead with a strike from the edge of the area.
