Dunstable Town showed real character to come back from 2-0 down to get their first league win since August and end a difficult run of results.

The first half performance was generally good despite conceding in under two minutes when Nicky Ironton’s shot from 25 yards looped up off a Dunstable defender and over Sam Carman into the net.

The Blues could have folded given that their confidence was low prior to the game but they stuck at it in an end to end opening twenty five minutes.

A Jake Anthony shot was easily saved by George Nicol on 28 minutes then his header skimmed the top of the bar soon after.

In keeping with the Blues’ luck at times this season, Harpenden were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute moments after Anthony nearly equalised. However, Carmen dived brilliantly to his right to deny Henry Jones from the spot.

Plamedi Bomolo then agonisingly headed over the bar from a yard out in the 38th minute

Soon after Harpenden went up the other end and doubled their lead when Jones beat Carman to the ball and made amends for his penalty miss.

The Blues, to their credit showed real character from then on with Israel Ajana shooting wide before they pulled a goal back just before half time when Bomolo finished well to give his team hope.

The second half brought a real determination from Dunstable. In the 48th minutes Ajana did brilliantly down the right, taking on Ryan Plowright who fouled his opponent in the box. Bomolo took the penalty to bring the Blues level with a confident finish.

George Devine then headed over for the visitors before Dunstable completed the turn around with a brilliant individual goal from Luka Lodder, who returned to the team after illness.

He started a mazy run from halfway inside the Harpenden half then skilfully dragged the ball past three Harpenden defenders with 67 minutes on the clock before striking the ball home much to the jubilation of his team mates.

Four minutes later Bomolo scored his hat-trick when he finished from six yards out after converting a Jake Anthony cross from the right.

It was nearly 5-2 with two minutes of the ninety left when Louie Carr, who has returned to the club after a spell at Creasey Park last season, glanced a header just wide.

Dunstable saw out six minutes of added time to record an important win and lift the spirits of all involved.
