Match Report: Dunstable Town 4-1 Sarratt

Dunstable Town kicked off their preseason campaign coming from behind to secure a spirited 4-1 win against Sarratt FC, the best way to describe this fixture is a tale of two halves. With plenty of new faces for Dunstable, you'd be forgiven for expecting a shaky start, however, new head coach, Steve O’Reilly had clearly imparted his free flowing, possession based style of football on the home team.

Despite a positive start, the visitors drew first blood, scoring in the 23rd minute. The rest of the half played out fairly evenly, without much to split the teams. Dunstable came close and perhaps should’ve equalised as two chances were put over the bar in quick succession.

The second half saw seven changes for Dunstable, with Steve O’Reilly looking to utilise as much of his squad as possible. Things really began to click for Dunstable after this, despite Sarratt’s number 18 causing some trouble he was effectively dealt with.

A Dunstable goal seemed inevitable and eventually in the 62nd, Number 17 slotted one home to bring Dunstable level. The floodgates were open, Joe Hankins scored 3 minutes later thanks to a gift from the Sarratt goalkeeper, Dunstable remained on the front foot, with number 11 finishing off a great piece of football with a composed finish to make it 3-1. A fourth goal came in the 87th minute for Number 17 rounding off a superb second half display from Dunstable Town which could’ve ended with a few more goals.

Overall, it was a very positive performance from Dunstable Town and one that Steve O’Reilly will likely be pleased with.
