Dunstable Town finally made the long midweek 100 mile round trip to Desborough Town after two previous postponements in the Gladwish Trophy on Tuesday night.
Missing some players through injury and being cup-tied, managers Steve O’Reilly and Micky Nathan added Owen Russell and Alfie Young from the under 18 team to the squad plus new signing Kaashan Darr from Baldock Town with returning Tom Silford starting on the bench.
The long journey seemed to have an affect on the Blues as they got off to a slow start.
The hosts took the lead in the 7th minute when a pass was given away in the middle of the pitch that Desborough capitalised on as they threaded a ball through the Dunstable defence, which was latched on to by Will Russell then slotted past Alfie Mumford.
Minutes later (Owen) Russell stole the ball off an opponent then played a smart through ball to Luka Lodder who shot just goes wide for Dunstable.
Another mistake in the tenth minute contributed to a second goal for Desborough by Kye Little despite a good initial save by Mumford.
The lively (Owen) Russell played in Ethan Goulding whose shot was tipped over by the keeper as the visitors looked to get back in the game.
Ten minutes before half time a smart shot from Goulding was saved by the keeper then a fine cross-field pass from Adam Wedd found Alex Butt who played in (Owen) Russell whose shot was deflected for a corner.
Dunstable came out quick for the second half and pulled a goal back through a fine strike from James Sales with six minutes gone.
The home side defended well but the Desborough keeper had to pull off two great saves to deny Tom Silford and the subsequent follow up in the 78th minute.
A fine save from Mumford then kept his team in the game before Lodder saw a free kick saved by the Desborough keeper’s legs as the game entered added time.
