Dunstable Town produced a very competitive performance against in-form and FA Vase quarter finalists Cockfosters at a very wet and windy Coles Park on Wednesday night in the Premier Division Cup.

The hosts started well with a Josh Grantham corner which found Mike Evans with a header in the 10th minute but although he connected well it went over the crossbar.

On 23 minutes Junior Moses burst forward onto a loose ball then drove at goal before finding Terry Offeh who beat a Town defender and shot, forcing Sam Carman into a great save at his near post.

Soon after the hosts’ Kenny Nobrega was booked for a late challenge.

Duntable defended well with 34 minutes gone when a smart header from Conrad Holland found Corey Ugbomah who took a touch and shot at goal only for the visitors defence to block his effort.

Right on half time Max Jessop fired the ball into a dangerous area where Evans rose well and clashed with Carman but the Town keeper showed bravery and good hands to save well.

A minute into the second half Dunstable took the lead when Cockfosters were caught In possession and the ball found its way to Plamedi Bomolo who twisted and turned before firing the ball from just outside the box past Connor Sansom.

The hosts hit back though on 53 minutes when Town didn’t clear their lines from a corner and the ball was tucked home at the far post by Evans.

Bomolo beat the offside trap but Sansom was out early and brave to make a fine save to deny him his second goal.

Cockfosters took the lead in the 64th minute when a corner was caught up in the windy conditions which caused havoc in the Town box with the ball ending up in the back of the net via Offeh.

The Blues brought on youngsters Owen Russell and Alfie Young from the U18’s along with former U18’s captain Billy Goodwin with twenty minutes to go plus Quelle Weekes and Kaashan Darr to add fresh legs.

With 77 minutes gone Junior Moses drove forward for Cockfosters then fired the ball across the box to Kendall Gyamfi who hit a ferocious goal bound shot which Dunstable blocked well.

The Blues had the ball in the net with minutes left but it was ruled out for offside then soon after their opponents went up the other end and produced a class goal from Moses who had the ability to glide past Town players then lob Carman to win the game.

No luck for Town again but a very pleasing performance.

Team: Carman: Nicholls; Sales; Butt; Wright; Kenna; Briggs; Rickman; Bomolo; Smith; Lodder.

Subs: Young; Russell; Darr; Weekes; Goodwin.
