Words from Development Gaffer Colin Lauder on their recent game.
We had a much changed team at the weekend which saw Kieran Ogden, Marlon Burton, Scott Collins and Ashton Fagen in front of the ever reliable Ben Lincoln. Callum Mckay started his first game for the club and joining him in midfield was Scott Fraser, Mr Versatile Tyler Dunnell, our Skipper Russell Wilson and Jamie Traynor, a product from our under 18’s side, our centre forward was Zion Selassie-Yoseph.
We arrived at Holmer Green in the need for a much needed 3 points after a disappointing 0 – 0 draw at home to AFC Hayes. I asked the team for a faster start to the game and that’s just what we got. After numerous corners, Russell Wilson supplied a terrific delivery that found the head of Kieran Ogden; he did the rest and powerfully headed home. 15 mins on the clock and 1 nil to the good.
We didn’t have to wait long for the second goal, it was from a free kick 20 yards out. Zion took it and curled a worldy into the top corner. Then came the third on 30 minutes and goal of the game and possibly the season! Marlon Burton pinched the ball of their centre forward on the halfway line, beat 2 players and unleashed a ferocious shot that flew past the keeper into the top corner. Just before half time Holmer beat the offside trap and made it 3 – 1. Holmer started the 2nd half quicker than us and got another goal back, 3 – 2.
Time for fresh legs. We brought on Kamran Khan, Aldrin Uka, Reece Burton, Rhys Jean and Ryan Lincoln. We saw the game out for a 3 – 2 win.
Well done lads, good team performance, 3 points and up to third.
In other news, we are expecting the return of some injured players in the coming weeks; this will strengthen the already strong squad we have.
We return to Eversley & California on Saturday and start the defence of our County Cup win on 26th October at home to Elstow Abbey. As always, thanks for all the support, especially Val & Samir.
Colin
