Club Statement: Steve O’Reilly steps down as manager

ree

It is with regret that this week the Dunstable Town board accepted Steve O’Reilly’s resignation as manager of the first team.

Steve informed the board of his decision ahead of the game against Virginia Water, but in true fashion, wanted to ensure we had the best chance to progress to the next round of the FA Vase before he officially announced his departure.

Richard Bulling remains at the club as caretaker manager and the club will announce it’s plans for Steve’s successor shortly

Speaking about his decision, Steve O’Reilly said “It is with regret that, prior to our match on Saturday, I informed Matt and Neil of my decision to step down as manager of the team.

“Despite my absolute best efforts, I have not been able to deliver the results on the pitch that this club deserves. I believe it is in the best interests of all parties to allow the club to move forward with appointing a manager capable of achieving that.

“There have been many highs and lows over the past 16 months and, although we ultimately haven’t achieved what we set out to do, I do feel there is a solid foundation to build on and still time within this season for someone new to come in and help the team challenge at the top of the league.

“My biggest regret is not being able to deliver success to all those at the club who put their faith in me and offered unwavering support during my tenure. This club has so many wonderful people who give so much of their time and energy for both the team and the wider community. I will greatly miss those frequent interactions and wish everyone nothing but the very best moving forward.

“There are too many people to thank individually in this statement, but I will do so privately in the coming days. To the directors, management team, medical staff, players, volunteers, and supporters, I can only express my heartfelt gratitude for everything you have given to me and the team.

“It has been a privilege to manage this wonderful football club, and I look forward to seeing Dunstable Town achieve success in the future.”

Steve joined Dunstable Town in the summer of 2024 and fast became a likeable figure on the touchline and whilst experiencing various challenges throughout his tenure, remained resolute in his professionalism in his approach to the game

Whilst he experienced recruitment challenges at the start, due to many of our previous squad leaving, he managed to recruit well, steering us to a credible position last season and whilst everyone will be disappointed with our recent losses, he has hopefully put the team in a place where whoever comes in will be able to build towards our ultimate goals

Speaking of his resignation Dunstable Town Chair Matt Carrington said “I’m sure that all Dunstable Town owners and supporters will join me in thanking Steve for his tremendous service to the club over the last year and wish him all the very best for the future.

“Steve’s love for the club and embracing of its values has been plain for all to see and this has undoubtedly been a difficult decision for him to make and one that is tinged with sadness. It goes without saying that Steve will always be welcome at this football club and we look forward to seeing him back at Creasey Park.”
