Club News: Town remember Tony Freely

Written by Andrew Madaras

The Club is saddened to learn of the loss of former player Tony Freely. Tony played for the Blues in the mid 1970's and had the honour of driving teammate George Best to the venue where the players enjoyed their post match meal after the friendly match against Man Utd in 1974.

Tony was born in Harpenden and started his career at Harpenden Rovers. He had trials at Tottenham & Luton before becoming a regular in the mid 70's Blues line-up.

Tony became a lawyer and moved to Worcester but continued his passion for football with managerial stints at Evesham, Stourbridge & Gloucester City.

Tony passed away on June 25th. His funeral is on 24th July at Worcester Crematorium.

Our condolences to his son Mike, his family, friends and loved ones.

Donations in Tony’s memory are requested to The Jeff Astle Foundation via their Just Giving page.
