Walking Football Team Take Part in Tournament

On Saturday 16th September Dunstable Town FC walking football team took part in a small tournament at Flitwick Leisure Centre consisting of 5 teams in total, including a team from Tottenham Hotspur. The team was made up of 9 current players, Steve Broughton, Tony Dunne, Terry Emm, Dave Golding, Adam Lew, Steve Neate, Ian Pegrum, Ian Steele & Dave Streeton

The set up was to play four 15 minute games and then the final would be between the top 2 teams. Speaking to other teams beforehand, it was clear that they all competed on a regular basis and our team were only competing in their second competition.

The first game went ok, against Maulden Orange, we were subject to a couple of penalties and took our time to start to play together against well established opponents. We fought well and did hit the back of the net, with a goal from Ian Pegrum, but unfortunately lost the game 5-1.

The second game was an improvement, we were against Tottenham Hotspur this time and they were a formidable opponent. We played well and kept them at bay and scored again, with a second goal in the competition from Ian Pegrum, but again we ended up losing 3-1.

The third game was against Maulden Black and we were starting to find our feet now. Both teams had chances. There were saves from both keepers, we were unlucky not to score on several occasions but the final result was a 1-0 defeat.

The final game was against M&J Kempston. We took the lead from an amazing goal from Ian Pegrum, receiving the ball from the keeper and taking it right up the other end and smashing it past the opposition keeper. We scored 2 further goals with some lovely football from Dave Golding and Dave Streeton and hit the post twice, but alas we couldn’t get the result we wanted and lost 4-3.

Every player gave their very best in all the games and it was clear to see the will and determination of them all to play and compete with well established teams and players. We have another tournament coming up in October and are looking to continue to compete in more. A thanks to ASDA in Dunstable who sponsored our kit and a thanks to Ian Bateman for all he does for our team.
