Bradley Field Awarded The Jim Hunt Trophy For Community Service.

The Weatherfield Academy Sixth Form Leavers Assembly took place on Friday 5th July and Neil Barker, Chairman of Dunstable Town FC and I were invited to the event by our two matchday volunteers, Bradley Field and Jon Keenan. Through the club’s partnership with the Academy, first Bradley and then Jon have become matchday volunteers and are now part of the very fabric of the club. They embody the ethos of the club in terms of what it stands for through their excellent work, attitude and friendly demeanour. Bradley is also captain of our Ability Counts team and always leads by example on the field. The day of the Assembly would be Bradley and Jon’s last at the Academy. Both had progressed through the school from a young primary age and so the school has been a big part of their lives. The Assembly was packed out with all the students, staff, family members and invited guests. Bradley and Jon both gave presentations which highlighted how much they enjoyed their volunteering at the club. So much so, that Bradley stated the club is like family to him. That brought a lump to the throat of both Neil and me. We were humbled by the words spoken about the club by both Bradley and Jon and what it means to them. Since Bradley and Jon have been with the club, we have seen them grow in stature as fine young men, whose self-belief, self-confidence and self-esteem have increased week-on-week. They are truly part of our club and highlight what an impact the club can have from a community perspective. Both will continue volunteering on matchdays, which says a lot for them as well as the club. However, more was to follow, after the student presentations and speeches. There were awards and the most important one was saved to last. The Jim Hunt Trophy for Community Service is awarded annually at Weatherfield Academy to a student who has made outstanding contributions to the school and the local community. When Bradley’s name was announced, his mother and grandmother burst into tears and his father and grandfather were brimming with pride and had huge smiles on their faces. As for Neil and me, we were emotional and humbled again. The club is so proud of Bradley and he richly deserves this award. Congratulations to Bradley and we wish him well on his future endeavours.
