Development Team 3 out of 3

The management duo of Simon Reilly and Colin Lauder continues to prove a successful one, which in recent months has seen a succession of their young charges go on and play with distinction in the First team. Erin Amu, Ben Collins, Kieron Ogden, Jetmir Esso, Nathan Mullings, James Lauder have all passed through the Development Team ranks and patiently waited their turns for a crack at football at a higher level.

Those of us present at Creasey Park on Thursday night witnessed a thoroughly deserved win over a strong Hartley Wintney side who had performed so well in the Suburban League last season, and whose First team have made such a promising start to life at Step 3 this season.

Simon & Colin have developed a successful scouting system which brings raw, hungry talent to their door which they mould into the type of footballer able to knock on the door of Tony McCool and Gareth Jackson, both of whom stayed to watch after First Team training, the Development Team win 3 -1 against our visitors from Hampshire.

The joy of success though was muted by the condition of Hartley Wintney goalkeeper, Chris Harris, who became unwell mid- way through the second half, complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing, and needed to be taken to the L&D by Paramedics. We all wish Chris a swift and lasting recovery.

In a game which saw Simon & Colin field several players with First team experience, Erin Amu kept up his impressive goal scoring record with a brace and a goal for Charlie Black.

Just in case anybody still fancied a relatively early night after the necessary 45 minute break while Chris Harris received on the pitch treatment, their hopes were dashed when the floodlights failed, plunging the pitch into darkness for nearly 10 minutes. Thankfully power was restored, the floodlights illuminated the pitch once again and the boys did Simon & Colin proud.

Two wins on the bounce became three wins in three matches when the Development Team travelled to Westfield in Woking on Saturday and secured a fine 2 -1 win with goals coming from Kamran Kahn and Kuda. With a 2 nil cushion, the Development team looked comfortable, however once Westfield had scored, Dunstable needed all their defensive know how to grind out an ultimately hard fought victory.

The season had kicked off on the 18th August with a good 3 -1 win away at Fleet Spurs.

The Development Team are back in action on Thursday 30th August when they take on Eversley & California k/o 7 45 pm. Admission is £5. Under 16’s free. Thank you for your incredible support.
