A brace from Clayton Lauder and a fine finish from Kamran Kahn were enough for Simon Reilly and Colin Lauder’s young proteges to turn around an early deficit and come out on top against a highly rated Harpenden Town Development team who had such a good season last term.
A beautiful summer’s evening and a healthy crowd of nearly 60 saw an entertaining game with both sides playing open, attacking football. Harpenden took an early lead as they opened up the home defence and early doors looked good for their lead.
As the half wore on Dunstable came back into the game and on the balance of play were worthy of Lauder’s smart finish. 1-1, game on. Theses matches may be billed as “friendlies” but don’t let that fool you into thinking there isn’t the same degree as commitment and passion on the field, just as if 3 points were not the winner’s prize.
End to end, chances and half chances came and went. Finally Dunstable powered ahead as Lauder got his second of the game, and even though Harpenden made a strong come back, Kahn’s exquisitely taken third goal sealed the win.
There were some very strong performances from the Dunstable boys and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this team don’t feature in Tony McCool’s plans before too long, following in the steps of established first teamers, Erin Amu, Ben Collins and Kieron Ogden to name but three.
More of the same is expected this Wednesday 8th August when the Development Team take on Sporting Lewsey on the 3g at Creasey Park. Admission is £3 for Adults & Concessions. Under 16’s free.
