CHAIRMAN'S FRIDAY THOUGHTS

February 9, 2018

Football can be a cruel game as those of us who were present at the last home game against St Neots where we lost to a goal in the fifth minute of time added on. However, we remain unbowed, undaunted and determined to carry this club forward.

As we enter the final third of the league season, it is fair to state that on and off the pitch the club has been on a significant journey. Off the field, countless hours have been put in by tireless volunteers to ensure the club can have a stable and sustainable long-term future. This has included putting in place new and transparent financial and governance systems and processes; ensuring old debts have been paid off and all current bills are paid on time; and seeking new investment and income generation schemes that benefit not only the First Team but also our Youth, Development and Ability Counts teams.

However, if we are to build on the foundations that have been put in place during this season, we need to develop one further aspect of the club. At non-league level, supporters are key but it is also essential to have a team of volunteers. Clubs such as ours do not have the resources to employ people to run the club, so we rely on the goodwill and time of willing volunteers.

Thus, in order to further enhance the good work that has gone on throughout the club, I am calling on our supporters and members of the community to step forward to offer their services and skills to the club at youth, development or first team level. This could be during the week in administrative roles; raising funds; as match-day stewards; selling 50-50 tickets, Golden Goal tickets, programmes and merchandise on match days; and being or becoming a coach at youth level.

We are committed to being a club that contributes to the town from a sporting, community and educational perspective. So please come and volunteer to help us realise our ambition and vision for this historic club.
