We have always shown excellent resilience and effort in many games and that’s where the performances always give you the confidence that eventually we will start to pick up some points, despite whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. So October has shown that we have indeed improved and we have learned a lot. What we don’t have in resource, we make for in a plan, guts and determination.
A couple of players came in against AFC Dunstable and improved us a lot in terms of adding some know-how and detail. We have also added some serious strength going forward and it has helped us to be able to maintain good spells of possession and pressure. We drew that game and lost on penalties in a game that was used to try the new players. Having matched a well-resourced team like that gave us the belief that we can indeed compete with teams in this league and that proved the case as we went and beat a good Farnborough team which was totally deserved. We came flying out of the block at St Neots and we felt really disappointed to let the lead slip. We won’t roll over and some changes and the usual desire from the players ensured we left with a healthy point.
I was delighted for the players but also for the fans who have supported us relentlessly with knowledge and empathy. Our last game at Stratford turned into a very unfortunate disaster. Some key things had gone against us and made the set up very unusual. We were still very disappointing to again reach half time at 4-0 down. However, the second half performance again was terrific and brave. Our keeper had one thing to do in the second half and before conceding again we created a host of chances in an attempt to claw back an unthinkable score. That was well acknowledged by the Stratford manager after the game.
We will be looking to emulate that second half performance for 95 minutes today. Despite today’s opponents great form and recent superb additions, we will certainly be looking to give them a very uncomfortable evening before we wish them a safe trip back to Norfolk.
