MATCH REPORT: DUNSTABLE TOWN V MERTHYR TOWN

MARTYRS DO THE DOUBLE OVER DUNSTABLE

Merthyr Town did the league double over Dunstable, with the hosts keen to  get some recompense  for the unfortunate 4-3 loss at Pennydarren Park earlier in the season, when they led 3-2 at 90 minutes, but conceded two stoppage time goals.

There was only one goal today and that came right on half-time.  The Martyrs started well and ought to have been a couple of goals to the good when Adam Pepera cleared a goal bound shot off the line and Kayne McClaggan  took advantage of great assistance from Keyon Reffell saw his shot strike the underside of the cross bar.

Dunstable’s best effort came from free-kicks, but goal keeper Glynn Garner was untroubled. The visitors finally found the net when McClaggan’s neat pass saw Ian Traylor’s shot give Jamie Head little chance.

The visitors defended their lead competently in a second half that saw a much improved Dunstable display with chances coming from Cathline and Talbot.  Eliot Richards could have doubled the lead for the Welsh side but he delayed too long and his shot was blocked.

Despite some late pressure Dunstable could not break down and organised defence and the points went back to the Principality.
