MATCH PREVIEW: DUNSTABLE TOWN V CAMBRIDGE CITY

August 4, 2016

Assistant manager Danny Talbot said he was impressed with the performance of Dunstable in their final pre-season friendly and hopes it can carry into the start of the season.

The Blues defeated National League South side, Oxford City, 2-1 at Creasey Park, thanks to two goals from Alex Cathline.

Talbot took to the pitch in the second half and he seemed chuffed with the performance of his players.

He said: “I was really impressed, we played against a good Conference South side who did well last season.

“We lost ourselves a bit in the second half, but it was even more impressive how we pulled ourselves together and saw the game out.”

Like most clubs, Dunstable have seen a lot of players depart, as well as the arrival of new faces.

With a 5-0 defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge and a 4-3 loss to St Albans, it seemed as if the side were struggling to gel, but wins against

Egham Town and now Oxford City has given fans a reason to be slightly optimistic going into the first game of the season.

Talbot said: “There’s a team effort there, they’ve put in five or six weeks of hard work in pre-season, they’ve gradually got better as time has gone on, there’s a good spirit there.

“The good thing is we have steadily improved with each game and it is nice to go into Saturday’s game against Cambridge with a win.”

With that said, Talbot was quick to point out that pre-season results don’t necessarily hold a bearing on how well a team might do over the course of the season.

“I always got told from a young age, don’t take too much notice of pre-season results, if you win every game in pre-season, it doesn’t mean you’re going to win the league.”

Come along to our first game of the season, a difficult home match against Cambridge City. Kick-off will be at 3pm.
