After a successful first term in charge, Dunstable Town boss Tony Fontenelle and assistant boss Danny Talbot are hoping to have a fruitful start to the 2016/17 season.
The Blues face their first pre-season fixture of the new season tomorrow (Saturday), taking on Ware FC away.
Fontenelle was keen to emphasise that there is no focus on the result and only on the building of fitness.
He said: “At this stage of the season it is all about getting match fit, you can have a great season after having a terrible pre-season and it can work vice-versa.
“So on that basis I try not to read into results too much at this stage of the season.”
He added: “Predominantly tomorrow senior players are going to play, but there are also going to be players who are fighting for a first team spot.”
After a woeful start to last season, Fontenelle and Talbot steered the ship to safety and at one point were in with a shout of a play-off place, only for poor end of season form leading to a mid-table finish.
Fontenelle hopes that that experience will help his side after taking the first glimpse at the release of the fixtures earlier on today.
“It’s always a difficult one, I have looked at the first six games and it is not an easy start to the campaign at all.
“I think we have learned from it [the beginning of last season], we were a bit naïve with our team selection and thinking certain players could do a job for us.
“Hopefully we have learned from that experience and we get the team selection right on the opening day.”
Dunstable Town is also pleased to announce two new signings.
We are excited to welcome:
Alex Cathline, 20, a striker, whose former clubs include Stevenage and Enfield.
And Taishan Griffiths, 19, a right winger who only has a short drive to Creasey Park from his previous club, Bedford Town.
