Last run out before the big kick off!
On an evening when temperatures began to reflect those of a normal British summer, Dunstable Town fans had a second chance to look at Simon Reilly & Colin Lauder’s emerging Development Team against Blues supremo, Tony McCool’s brother, Chris McCool’s, team, Sporting Lewsey.
Wearing the red of Sporting Lewsey was none other than Dunstable’s own, Jonny Barnett, eager to get on the pitch and get some more valuable pre-season minutes under his belt. Barnett is a class act and looked lively in the visitor’s midfield.
While the hosts had the lion’s share of play and created a hatful of first half chances, they were denied by a combination of brave defending & expert goalkeeping.
Sporting created chances with quick breaks from their own half, and somewhat against the run of play went a goal up towards the break. Dunstable rallied and were thankful to the predatory scoring instincts of Clayton Lauder to score his third goal in two matches only for Sporting to turn the form books completely on their heads with a well taken second goal.
Despite absorbing further Blues pressure, Sporting looked good to be taking the spoils of war across Poynters Road and back to base when up popped Russel Wilson to grab an equaliser which was thoroughly deserved.
The Development Team were back in action 72 hours later in a practice match against the First Team which saw the senior side run out 3-1 winners in a useful match for both sides which also saw former Luton Town defender Joe Mead impress in the senior side’s line up.
Tony McCool was delighted to have secured the services of 18 year old Mead who fits the bill perfectly for the Club’s needs.
Dunstable Town start their season away at North Leigh FC on Saturday 18th August, quickly followed by the visit of Berkhamsted to Creasey Park on Tuesday 21st August.
The Development side start their Suburban League season away at Fleet Spurs on August 18th followed by a home match against Hartley Wintney on Thursday 23rd August.
