As part of our ongoing partnership with Dunstable Library, librarians Carly and Linda ran a workshop for Year 9 students of Weatherfield Academy, our Community School of the Season. The workshop consisted of a tour of the library and the students learning more about the social history of the town as well as the history of the football club.

The workshop was based around the students creating scrapbooks with interesting articles and stories about the club and the town. The students used the library’s microfiche reader to explore past editions of the Dunstable Gazette and found some interesting facts about the history of the club, which they included in their scrapbooks. The students were also able to develop an appreciation of the technology, clothing and hairstyles from the 1970s and 1980s, through the Gazette and copies of club programmes from those decades.

Will Kydd, the Weatherfield Year 9 teacher who accompanied the students stated: “The pupils were fascinated to find out that Dunstable Town FC was founded over 130 years ago. They particularly enjoyed using the microfiche reader to find out the names of past players and past match statistics.”

Dunstable Town Football Club is a members owned football club that is run by the Club Committee
