CHAIRMAN'S CALL TO ARMS
Football is a funny old game as Jimmy Greaves often reminded Ian St John. This was clearly the case on Tuesday evening when we hosted Weymouth in the rearranged fixture and what a momentous night it proved to be. Our young lions defied the odds and put on a magnificent display to overcome a strong Weymouth team 2-1 which ended The Terras ten-match unbeaten streak.
For all our supporters who witnessed this victory, there was an outpouring of emotion and joy as they celebrated. The iconic image of our devoted and fervent fans hugging Charlie Black and Daniel Triff will live long in the memory.
Such scenes highlight the importance of supporters at this level. Fans are the life-blood of non-league teams such as ourselves, notably, since the supporters took over the running of the club. It has been tough sorting out and running the club in a democratic and transparent manner. However, Dunstable Town FC is all the better for the work that has gone in to save and stabilise the club since last May. This is due to the care, dedication, enthusiasm and passion of the club’s fans. They have put in effort, time and money to help the club survive and hopefully prosper in the future.
For the club to have a meaningful future, I am now putting out a call to arms. To our loyal supporters who have stuck with us and have adhered to the old adage that you stick with your team irrespective of the number of losses they are suffering – I say keep up the great support of our young squad of gladiators who have a never-say-die attitude. To the fans that used to come on a regular basis – come back, see how we have changed the club and how supporter-driven and inspired it is. For potential fans – come and give us a try. You will receive a warm and genuine welcome, watch some great football and recognise how much of a community-based club we are.
