Prior to our home match versus Weymouth, the club held its first inter-school friendly football tournament. The three schools involved had all been part of the club’s 2016-17 Community Education Project. They were the club’s Community School of the Season, Totternhoe Lower School, Weatherfield Academy, who helped to organise and host the tournament through Liam Meenan and Kensworth Church of England Primary School.

It was a truly friendly tournament as the teams representing the three schools were made up of a mixture of boys and girls from Years 4, 5 and 6, with the key criteria being that they were not members of organised football teams that played in competitive leagues. The aim of the tournament was to give these children a chance to play for a team and experience the fun of playing football with no expectations upon them and in the Corinthian spirit.

Each team played the other two teams twice and the scores did not matter be it win, lose or draw. Fun was the order of the day. The children were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends and staff.

After the tournament finished, all the teams along with the supporters walked down to Creasey Park to enjoy a spot of lunch and refreshments provided by the club, be presented with their medals by the Chairman, John Mcloughlin, then lead out the two teams as the mascots for the day.

There will be more friendly tournaments during the 2017-18 season as the club continues to work with local schools.
