MATCH REPORT: BANBURY UNITED V DUNSTABLE TOWN
DOOLAN DOES IT FOR DUNSTABLE
Dunstable ended their sequence of recent league defeats with a praiseworthy single goal win over Banbury United, a team they beat at Creasey Park in august by the same score. Although under a good deal of pressure for some periods, Dunstable’s disciplined defence and combative midfield played with improving confidence and Danny Talbot saw one effort cleared off the line.
Zack Reynolds was called upon to do the same thing, when with Jamie Head out of position; he prevented what looked like a certain goal. Banbury had the greater possession and a good deal of multi-passing artistry, but they lacked clinical finishing.
Having reached the interval, it was expected that the hosts would apply greater pressure, but Dunstable always looked good on the break. The game’s only goal came when Bola gained a free kick centrally at about twenty-five yards. This was pumped in and Sam Doolan rocketed the ball into the net after seventy-six minutes from close range.
Under pressure, Dunstable kept their composure and could have gone further ahead when a rasping shot from man of the match Jack Hutchinson struck the cross bar.
Banbury threw everything at the visitors with frantic efforts on goal and Dunstable’s welcome clean sheet owed much to heroic goal keeping from Jamie Head.
