MATCH REPORT: DUNSTABLE TOWN V CHIPPENHAM TOWN
DUNSTABLE BEGUILED BY DISCIPLINED CHIPPENHAM DEFENCE
With all the goals coming in the first half, this evenly contested match had exciting moments until the end. Third placed Chippenham, took the lead against fourth placed Dunstable after just five minutes. A poorly defended free –kick from wide on the left was picked out cleanly by man of the match David Pratt who converted with a close range volley.
Chippenham allowed Dunstable little room to manoeuvre which resulted in a number of long balls from the hosts, which proved to be a largely ineffective tactic. The home side’s task took a further blow when David Longe-King conceded a penalty after twenty minutes which was emphatically converted by Andy Sandell who sent Jack smith the wrong way.
But after half an hour, Dunstable reduced the arrears with a neat bit of combinational play which was finished well by Danny Green. Kelvin Bossman was through with a decent chance but he was denied by keeper Darren Chitty. Bossman had a golden chance a little later when after a poorly defended ball bounced invitingly for him ad with just the keeper to beat he faced an open goal but his shot was agonisingly inches wide.
The second half provided many chances, but no more goals, the closest being Alex Cathline’s fierce shot that struck the stanchion and Pratt for Chippenham hitting the foot of the post when a goal seemed certain. Dunstable exerted considerable pressure in the closing stages but were met with resolute defending, and indeed right at the end only a brilliant save from Jack Smith denied Pratt his second goal of the game.
