MATCH REPORT: DUNSTABLE TOWN V DORCHESTER TOWN

SONUGA AND CATHLINE SECURE THE POINTS

Dunstable ended their gloomy run of four successive league defeats with an ultimately nervous victory over visitors Dorchester Town at Creasey Park – but they had to survive a spirited late rally from the visitors who scored a goal to reduce the arrears and came close to a dramatic stoppage time equaliser.

The hosts made a lively start with a number of chances from Jack Hutchinson, Danny Talbot and Andrew Phillips. The visitors settled well and Under 19 Northern Ireland International and loan player from Yeovil Town - Ollie Bassett had the first shot on target, which was well saved by Jack Smith.

Dorchester forced several corners, but Dunstable had the best chance of a goal in the score-less first half when Phillips shot narrowly wide. David Jerrard’s late cross was aimed at Nathan walker who just failed to connect.

The second half saw the game rise from a period of lethargy when a Jack Hutchinson cross for Kelvin Bossman saw the Dunstable striker completely miss his kick from close range. Dunstable took the lead in untidy fashion when John Sonuga got the final touch with a header after an hour’s play. Dunstable’s second goal was well-worked when substitute Adam Moussi got in a fine pass at the second attempt for Alex Cathline to rifle in his eighth goal of the season.

Andrew Phillips could have wrapped matters up with a golden chance but his shot hit the foot of the post and was bundled away to safety.

Dorchester’s late rally brought its reward when Nathan Walker pulled one back with minutes to go and substitute Joe Lea ought to have equalised in stoppage time but the keeper’s knee somehow pushed the goal bound shot agents the post and thus Dunstable took maximum points.
