MATCH REPORT: DUNSTABLE TOWN 0-5 DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE
A thrashing at the hands of Dagenham and Redbridge sees Dunstable Town’s winless pre-season run continue.
A nervy start from Dunstable saw the deadlock broken within the opening three minutes, with Zack Reynolds and the Blues keeper, Jack Smith, letting in the Daggers striker, who bundled the ball over the line.
With Dagenham seemingly comfortable, Gary Wharton went on a smart run, leaving the fullback for dead before his shot was emphatically saved by Mark Cousins.
With former England international, David James watching on, Dunstable keeper Smith made a string of brilliant saves, keeping his side in the game, earning a round of applause from James.
The home side grew into the game and looked strong on the counter attack, but a smart piece of play from former Luton midfielder, Luke Guttridge, set up the away side’s striker well to fire home in emphatic fashion.
David Longe-King and then Hutchinson forced Cousins into a couple of excellent saves, but the keeper’s acrobatics were key to the visitors keeping a clean sheet going in at the break.
The second half got off to a sluggish start, but the visitors stepped up a level and soon added to their tally.
Smith looked as if he had saved his side majestically, somehow getting a hand on a left footed volley from outside the box, but from the resulting corner, the 22 year old was caught in no man’s land as he punched thin air, with heading in with ease to make it 3-0.
The game settled down, with the Daggers taking control of possession and eventually notched their fourth of the match.
With a host of changes made by Blues boss Fontenelle, his side lost their shape and struggled to take a hold of the game.
Dunstable went in search of a consolation goal, but the Daggers caught them on the break, making it 5-0 moments before the final whistle.
It was a disappointing game for Fontenelle and Talbot to watch, but there were some signs of gelling together as well as the improvement of fitness.
Dunstable travel to Arlesey Town FC this Saturday, with the game kicking off at 3:00pm.
