THE CAPTAIN'S BLOG: IT'S TIME TO PERFORM
The last two weeks have been of mixed emotions.
Beforehand it had been difficult as we endured a losing run we hadn't been familiar with since the beginning of the season.
We had a great opportunity to put that behind us with a home game against Merthyr; a team we had already beaten this season.
We made a few changes from Leamington and they seemed to work as we were 2-0 after nine minutes thanks to goals from Talbs.
We were cruising in the game until they won a penalty after Dave Keenleyside handled on the line.
Despite this we managed to see out the game under real pressure claiming a needed 3 points.
Earlier on in the season that would have been a game we would have potentially drawn or even lost so it shows how far we have come in seeing games out.
There were a lot of positives as well with good performances from Longe-King and Rochey who haven't had a lot of football this season.
Going into the Slough game, I get it was a good chance to improve our away form, which hasn't been the best over the course of the season compared to our home form, which is one of the best in the league.
We named an unchanged side and started very well however were unable to get a goal.
Unfortunately for us the pitch wasn't the best and we struggled to create much infront of goal.
However we did defend well for 80 minutes, but a penalty was given away from a deep free kick and the striker managed to squeeze it in under Jamie Head who had an excellent game overall.
It was an extremely disappointing result, and due to our recent form we seem to be drifting away from the playoffs.
We spoke as a team on Thursday and we looked at the remainder of the season.
The fact is we have 11 games left and four of them are against the bottom four. Teams we are competing with in the play offs are going to have more difficult run ins than us and with it being an extremely competitive league this year, no games are a given which also helps us.
We have Bideford and Paulton in the next two games and we have a great opportunity to get maximum points which no doubt would put us right back in the mix.
I also believe there could be a couple of potential additions which will boost the squad for the run in.
